"Growing up I was active in all sorts of creative projects. Those around me were always making and creating something, whether it was sewing, painting, preserving food from the garden, or trying out new recipes. Of course I loved all the baking and cooking, and eating! From a young age, I was always working on a creative project, whether it was drawing and colouring as a child, embroidery and cross stitch as a teen, or macramé, potholder making, glass painting, and a multitude of other projects. I've always loved working with my hands and, later in life while working full time in different job roles, I've always taken evening classes to feed my need for creativity, learning skills in mosaics, furniture upcycling and restoration, upholstery, card making, stained glass art, and lots more - all of which I loved! I completed a Masters degree and a qualification in facilitating learning and development, and have always been an advocate for the creative industries. I've worked primarily in adult education over the past 20 years, and am delighted to be the founder of Let's Craft NI.
Establishing Let's Craft NI as a business has been a dream come true. I'm delighted to have a career where I can support others to learn new skills and have fun at the same time. Being in my 50s, I know it can be a challenge to find adult hobby classes, particularly with the colleges reducing what they offer, so one of my goals is to provide classes for adults. Having hobbies and taking part in arts and crafts is so important, for children, but also essential as we age and get older. Crafting is great for our health and wellbeing, from the social interaction, to keeping our mind active by learning new skills, to the way it enables us to forget about any worries while focusing on using our hands and being creative. Crafting encourages creative thinking and problem solving, and is simply fun! I hope you'll find some inspiration from Let's Craft NI, and do check our our social media channels @letscraftni for inspiration and ideas."
