Flowers truly are extraordinary, having a long-term positive effect on mood. Those taking part in the study reported feeling less depressed, less anxious and less agitated after seeing flowers, and demonstrated a higher sense of enjoyment and life satisfaction. Taking part in gardening has the same positive impact.
“Common sense tells us that flowers make us happy,” said Dr. Haviland-Jones. “Now, science shows that not only do flowers make us happier than we know, they have strong positive effects on our emotional well-being.” Taking part in activities like gardening, flower arranging and floral crafts are ways to feel more connected with nature, more mindful, and trigger our 'happy' emotions.
